The Sub: Making Your Fridge Obsolete for Keeping Beer Cold

That’s Heineken’s brand new toy up there.  It’s being touted as the latest must-have home appliance for perfectly ice-cold beers right in the comfort of your own home. The Sub is a collaborative effort between Heineken, Krups and designer Marc Newson. The whole idea of it is that it can provide you with a pint of ice-cold perfection that your lowly refrigerator could only ever hope to achieve.

Imagine, perfectly cold beers. No more lukewarm lagers ever. No more ice in your beer to keep it cold.

Ice in Beer

Never, ever do this. Ever.

Just a magnificent piece of tech that will make all of your friends green with envy. Just look at it. It’s marvellous. It’s as if the future promised in The Jetsons has finally arrived.

This is what the future should look like.

Having said that, you can achieve a similar effect with a bottle of beer wrapped in a wet paper towel. Just throw that bottle in the freezer for about fifteen minutes, and you should be able to get an ice-cold brew too. It’s less sexy, but it does work.

Paper Towel Beer

Less sexy for sure, but I would still tap that. To drink, that is.
