You Won’t Believe How This Whiskey Heist Happened And How Much It’s Worth.

According to the Associated Press, Kentucky authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information that helps authorities solve the disappearance of hundreds of bottles of pricey bourbon.
65 cases of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and nine cases of 13-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve rye were taken from the Buffalo Trace Distillery at Frankfort in mid-October of this year. Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said Monday the reward could provide “a heck of a Christmas” for someone who helps crack the case. Now, a $10,000 reward may seem like an awesome deal. I mean, that should make for a sweet Christmas gift, amirite?
However, the missing whiskey is actually valued at more than $26,000, and the case has become a compelling mystery in a state that produces 95 percent of the world’s bourbon. That is a tonne of money. Although, not literally. It depends.
Skiing down the side of a mountain of money? That’s real wealth, right there.
Melton says a crime stopper’s group put up $1,000, but he declined to identify any other donor.
“We believe whoever did this took them out the back from the secured area over a period of two months.” Melton said. “Obviously, the way this happened, it’s indicative of an inside job.”
Melton said officials are in the early stages of the investigation, and will be on the lookout for any bottles popping up on the black market.
But the thief might not be in any rush, Fischer said.
“If you keep bourbon in the right conditions, it will be good forever.”
“You have to wonder what’s going to happen to the 195 stolen bottles,” said Kit Codik, CEO of the all-things cocktail website Liquor.com. “It’s like when a van Gogh goes missing: Where does that rare piece of art end up? I have no idea.”
